Instructions and Explanation
On this page, there are several pictures I made using a program called Open Canvas. However, when you click on a picture on this page, rather than viewing a larger image, you'll be asked if you want to download a wpe file. This is a file used only in Open Canvas, and it runs kind of like a movie. It's an "event file", and it plays from beginning to end every step I took in drawing the picture. You can see the outline being drawn, then the color being filled in, the background being added... It plays much more quickly than I actually went, but it gives you a good idea of what process I used in drawing.
Unfortunately, you'll have to download the program first. Here are some quick instructions:
- Click here to download Open Canvas. It's only about 967KB, very small. This is not a zip file or a setup program, it is the actual paint program. Just save it to wherever you want it to end up, maybe c:\program files.
- Remember where you put the program? It's called oC11b71.exe. Now open it.
- The writing probably looks really strange. That's because it's a Japanese program, and you may not have the font installed. Don't worry, just click on the Help(H) menu at the top, and choose English(E). There should now be a check mark next to English(E), and everything should be in English now.
- Now you can download one of my pictures, by clicking on the little version of it below. Save it somewhere you'll remember, maybe with your Open Canvas program.
- In Open Canvas, under the File(F) menu, choose "Import Event File(I)..." and a diologue box should come up.
- Choose the picture you just downloaded, and press the ok button. The movie should start playing.
- Enjoy!
You can adjust the speed the movies play at. Under the Show(V) menu, look at "Event Playing With Weight". If there's a checkmark next to it, the movies will play a bit more slowly. If there's no checkmark, they'll play really fast.
